HELLO
Welcome to the online portfolio of the North East's premier print maker, John Todd.

"A chance observation, a fleeting glimpse, the ‘something caught my eye’ moment. All of these underpin the prints I produce. They can be inspired by anything from a Gambian one-man-band to an ill repaired garden fence. It’s a case of noticing something initially, processing its possibilities, drawing out and preparing the final image prior to working on the printing plate itself."

DRY-POINT PRINTS

QUOITSKETCHER
A simple process....a process which can lead to the production of fascinating prints. An image scribed onto a plastic sheet/plate, takes up ink as an etching plate would. With damp watercolour paper laid over it the plate passes through a press. The ink is transferred to the paper and here is your print-black and white with colour possibilities too.
As a newcomer to the village, I was introduced to the sport of quoits. I proved to be better at documenting the game than actually playing it. Under the name, QUOITSKETCHER, I put together a series of lino prints illustrating game situations. The series debutted and was received well when the World Quoits Championship was held at The CB Inn, Arkengarthdale, Swaledale, North Yorkshire

"I don’t have my first "potato print" but that excitement and anticipation in pulling off the first print from a freshly drawn plate never diminishes."
